ATAFU, NUKUNONU, FAKAOFO FENUA FALA AND FAKAOFO FALE, TOKELAU

Constructing four wharves and widening existing reef passages

Hall Contracting was engaged by the Government of Tokelau and the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade to undertake widening and deepening of existing reef passages in the Tokelau islands of Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo Fenua Fala, and Fakaofo Fale. The scope of works also included constructing four new wharves.

Hall used the ocean tug MT Katea and 1200-tonne barge Orion to transport all construction plant and materials required for the project. Once established on site, Orion transported materials from nearby Samoa to each of the islands. Hall installed pre-cast concrete panels to line new berthing faces and modified existing wharf and ramp structures using concrete poured in-situ.
