Capital dredging works on behalf of Gladstone Ports Corporation
Gladstone Ports Corporation (GPC) engaged Hall Contracting to widen and deepen the Clinton Channel to create a greater passing distance between cruising vessels and those berthed at the RG Tanna Coal Terminal. Previously, ships leaving Wiggins Island Coal Terminal were required to pass within 80 metres of the berthed ships, generating wash that had the potential to break mooring lines.
Hall was tasked with widening the Clinton Channel by approximately 100m, dredging it to a design depth of -16m LAT, and removing a triangular wedge between the Clinton Channel and Clinton Bypass Channel.
The team dredged approximately 800,000m³ of material using backhoe dredge Woomera, and deposited it in a nearby reclamation area.
The project was completed on time, within budget and with zero lost-time injuries.
