Constructing a 780-metre-long sub-surface cement bentonite cut-off wall

Sunshine Coast Council engaged Hall Contracting to construct a 780-metre-long sub-surface cement bentonite cut-off wall along the western batter of the Pierce Avenue Landfill facility. The works were completed in two phases and were designed to minimise groundwater flow from the facility.

The first stage involved constructing the wall which was keyed into a low-permeability sub strata and clay perimeter bund. A leachate collection system – consisting of collection trenches, a rising main, a pump station and a supervisory control and data acquisition system – was also constructed.

The project also involved constructing 780 metres of access road, a sedimentation pond and other surface water management infrastructure.
