Era Ranger Uranium Mine tailings dredging

RANGER MINE JABIRU, NORTHERN TERRITORY

Reclaiming approximately 26.8 million tonnes of uranium tailings

After a six-month tender process – involving onsite audits of Hall’s head office and dredging operations – Hall was engaged by Rio Tinto to dredge approximately 26.8 million tonnes of uranium tailings at Ranger Mine in the Northern Territory.

The tailings were removed from a storage facility using a purpose-built stainless-steel dredge, Jabiru, which was owned by Rio Tinto. Throughout the project, Hall was tasked with maintaining dredge, as well as all supplied plant and infrastructure, which were exposed to the highly corrosive acid tailings water.

A second dredge from Hall’s own fleet, Brolga, was utilised, with both dredges working 24 hours a day, seven days a week throughout the duration of the project.
