Constructing an artificial reef 270 metres offshore from Palm Beach
The City of Gold Coast engaged Hall Contracting to construct an artificial reef approximately 270m off Palm Beach as a coastal protection measure.
The artificial reef was constructed using rock quarried in South East Queensland. After establishing a material load-out facility, Hall loaded the rocks (each weighing up to eight tonnes) onto barges at the Port of Brisbane, where they were transported to the site.
The team used a backhoe dredge to accurately place the rock to build the artificial reef. The structure is approximately 160m long and 80m wide.
