HAIL CREEK, QUEENSLAND
Dredging approximately 280,000m³ of sediment
On behalf of Rio Tinto Coal Australia, Hall Contracting dredged the Hail Creek Mine polishing pond, located 140 kilometres south-west of Mackay in central Queensland. The works were conducted after sediment build up had begun to affect the efficient operation of the pond.
Cutter suction dredge Navua was used to remove approximately 280,000m³ of material to a tailings storage facility located 1.5km from the pond. To pump the sediment to the facility, Navua’s dredge pipeline had an elevation of around 80m, aided by two booster pumps.
