Dredging to increase the depth of a shipping channel in Darwin

Hall Contracting was engaged by Darwin Port Corporation to undertake dredging to increase the depth of the shipping channel through Charles Point Patches.

The scope of works included hydrographic surveys and dredging 105,000m³ of sand and shell fragments, rock, and rubble with a base of hard clay. Dredge spoils were deposited in a manner consistent with environmental approvals.

Cutter suction dredge Eastern Aurora and work boat Groote Eylandt were used to complete the dredging works. Local tugboats were used to transfer the dredge from Darwin Harbour to Charles Point Patches.
