Dredging program for the Fiji Government to remove sediment build up

The Fiji Government engaged Hall Contracting to undertake a dredging program for Nadi River to remove sediment build-up and mitigate issues arising from annual flooding including damage to infrastructure and risks to public health.

Hall removed 1,200,000m³ of sediment from a section of Nadi River extending from 7.7 kilometres upstream to 1.2 kilometres out to sea from the river mouth. The team dredged a channel approximately 50-metres-wide and 5-metres-deep, with the material placed in secure bundled areas adjacent to the river bank.

A project highlight for the Hall team involved training local Fijian operators and crew and training government surveyors in hydrographic survey techniques.

Key project outcomes included improved flood flow conveyancing in the river and the reduction of flood effects.
