Forest City Development Phase 1 Land Reclamation

Dredging approximately 3,000,000m³ for a man-made island project

Covering a total of 3,425 acres, the $150 billion Forest City project in Bahru, Malaysia involved four man-made islands that were reclaimed in four phases: Island One (979 acres), Island Two (1,896 acres), Island Three (405 acres) and Island Four (145 acres).

Hall Contracting was engaged by the contracted builder, JBB International Limited, to undertake the dredging component of phase one. This involved dredging approximately 3,000,000m³ of sand, which was brought to the dredge site by sand-carrier barges.

Hall used its largest cutter suction dredge, Eastern Aurora, along with work boatGroote Eylant to pump the material a distance of up to 2.6km. A combination of Hall expatriates and local subcontractors were engaged to deliver the project on time and within budget.
