MOUNTAIN CREEK, QUEENSLAND

Award-nominated construction of the Brightwater Estate lake and canal

To construct the Brightwater Estate lake and canal, Hall Contracting excavated 13ha and over 1,000,000m³ of material to develop the lake and surrounding development. The project also included the translocation of 12.2ha of native vegetation, including rare and threatened plant species.

All associated lake infrastructure was delivered as part of the project, including over four kilometres of revetment walls; steel and vinyl sheet piles; a significant culvert structure; concrete weir; a salinity pumping system; and an intake structure with a jetty.

The project had numerous terrain and environmental constraints, including marine clays and soft clays (which required sub-grade modifications), acid sulfate soils, a high watertable, marine vegetation and strict water quality requirements.

Hall received multiple environmental award nominations for this project including Queensland State Finalist for the Civil Contractors Federation Queensland Earth Awards in 2012 and finalist in the Healthy Waterways Awards in 2013.
