Following the successful delivery of a 2.2km seawall and 62 hectare reclamation area at the Port of Townsville, Hall was invited to undertake further works for the $232 million Port of Townsville Channel Upgrade.
Backhoe dredge Woomera has been tasked with dredging more than 3 million cubic metres of material from the Platypus channel. This will see the channel widened from 92m to 180m at the inshore (port) end, tapering to 120m at the seaward end.
Dredged material is being placed in the new reclamation area at the mouth of Ross River.
The upgrade is the largest infrastructure project in the port’s 158-year history and will enable Townsville to welcome trade, defence and cruise ships up to 300 metres long.
