Hall Contracting was engaged by the Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) to undertake channel and maintenance dredging works in Port Douglas boat harbour and entrance channel. The project involved dredging of approximately 55,000 cubic metres of material and the installation of 5.5km of dredge pipeline partially through protected vegetation to the containment facility.
The boat harbour entrance is a busy channel and the job also involved dredging through multiple booster pumps, with 5.5km pumped. Pipeline was laid through old growth mangroves and salt marsh, resulting in interaction with crocodiles. The project won a QLD Environmental award.
