Hall Contracting was engaged by the Department of Defence to undertake dredging works. These works were required to ensure navigability of the port for the HMAS Coonawarra and Navy patrol boats.
The scope of works included pre and post dredge surveys, dredging 3,000m³ of contaminated sediment materials located underneath the “Synchrolift” ship-lift area to the disposal treatment area due West of the Navy’s port services, and the construction of Sediment Treatment Ponds, including a series of lagoons used specifically for the containment and treatment of contaminated marine sediments and associated waste water. It also included the dewatering of contaminated sediments within the lagoons, via gravity through a weir system and the removal of dried sediments to a licensed waste facility.
