Port of Brisbane

Port of Brisbane, Queensland

Dredging and land reclamation for the expansion of the Port of Brisbane.

Port of Brisbane

#About this project

The Port of Brisbane is Australia’s fastest growing container port, and Queensland’s largest general cargo port. Since 2002, the Cutter Suction Dredge Amity has been working at the Port of Brisbane, dredging the berths and approach channels and provided land reclamation for the expansion of this significant Port.

In 2007, The Port of Brisbane constructed a 48km long sea wall to provide for reclamation in excess of 15 million m3. Hall Contracting, who owns the CSD Amity, was engaged in 2012 to dredge Berths 12 and 13 and provide up to 500,000m3 of land reclamation. The material consisted of soft to firm clays and some sands.

Due to the soft nature of the reclamation subgrade, specialist advice from Coffey Geosciences was sought from time to time to ensure safety of the land reclamation crews and effectiveness of the reclamation.
