SEE Group sets sights on Sunshine Coast

Specialist construction and engineering company SEE Group is poised to enter the Sunshine Coast construction market, having announced it has acquired the civil infrastructure division of renowned local business Hall Contracting.

SEE Group Managing Director Steve Turner said the acquisition would enable the company to expand its footprint across South-East Queensland.

“Having been a key player in the Gold Coast construction industry for more than 35 years and expanded in more recent years to service Brisbane, Ipswich, Moreton Bay, and north coast and western NSW, SEE Group has been eager to grow the business further and secure a foothold on the Sunshine Coast for some time now,” Mr Turner said.

“Hall has a stellar track record in delivering quality projects on the Sunshine Coast and beyond and their depth of expertise and positive reputation really appealed to us, so we jumped at the opportunity to take on Hall’s existing projects and workforce and establish a presence in the region.”

Mr Turner said the acquisition presented tremendous opportunity for current and future clients as well as the 100-plus staff joining SEE Group.

“Our increased capacity and capability will enable us to offer greater economies of scale to clients, which is a very exciting prospect, and our new team members are set to benefit from a robust professional development program and ongoing investment in plant and equipment,” he said.

Hall Contracting CEO & Director Cameron Hall said the acquisition marked the end of an era for the dredging and marine infrastructure company, which has offered civil construction services since the 1970s.

“Farewelling our civil construction division is incredibly bittersweet, and while we are sad to close that chapter and farewell our valued clients and team members who have been such an important part of the Hall journey, we are also excited for what lies ahead.

“This change in direction is certainly not the end of Hall Contracting, but rather a strategic decision to drive growth in other areas of the business.

“With our dredging and marine infrastructure divisions continuing to grow exponentially, our board of directors has made the decision to focus its attention and resources on furthering Hall’s capability and presence in these areas in Australia, Asia and the Pacific Islands.”

Mr Hall said he was confident the civil infrastructure division was in capable hands moving forward, with SEE Group’s values and corporate culture aligning closely with Hall’s.

“When considering expressions of interest from companies wishing to purchase our civil division, we were determined not to select a large conglomerate that regarded team members as just a number.

“Our chief priorities were to provide service continuity for our clients as well as job security and a positive workplace culture for Hall’s existing civil construction workforce.

“As a private, family-built company based in South-East Queensland that is passionate about delivering high-quality infrastructure and genuinely cares for its people, we believe SEE Group is the ideal firm to take the baton and drive the civil infrastructure division forward.

“Most importantly, they value the knowledge, experience and relationships our team members possess and they have made a firm commitment to retain and develop Hall’s existing civil workforce, so we felt confident our civil team members and clients would be well taken care of under their leadership.”

SEE Group is a group of companies delivering delivering construction solutions for major road, rail, urban and industrial development, aviation and mining infrastructure projects in Queensland and New South Wales.
